Land Acknowledgement

I recognize that I live and practice on the territory of xučyun (Huichin), the ancestral and unceded land of the Chochenyo speaking Ohlone people, the successors of the sovereign Verona Band of Alameda County. This land was and continues to be of great importance to the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe and other familial descendants of the Verona Band.

I am aware that every member of the Berkeley community has, and continues to benefit from, the use and occupation of this land, and acknowledge that the Muwekma Ohlone people are alive and flourishing members of the Berkeley and broader Bay Area communities today.

I pay annual Shuumi land tax as an inadequate reparation to the indigenous people of the land I occupy. Calculate your annual Shuumi Land Tax – The Sogorea Te Land Trust (sogoreate-landtrust.org).

I also want to recognize the origin of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an indigenous practice of the Han people, emerging in written form between 200 BCE-200CE and evolving in a continuous scholarly medical tradition practiced worldwide.
